Ghost of Your Presence
Take from me
the weight of memories;
I can't carry such a burden.
I can't bear these thoughts
of our lost yesterdays.
I've been here all this time
awaiting your return,
a lesson I'll never learn.
You saved me from myself
then left me wandering
and wondering what went wrong.
I could never explain
my sunny day turned to rain,
the fullness of my life emptied,
overturned on the floor,
and you smile and say
you want it this way
as you walk out the door.
I have this feeling of imminent disaster -
a shadow hangs over me, and I feel it
covering me, blanketing my senses
with a dull numbness.
My world has crumbled,
but like a hermit I live in the ruins,
scavenging what is left,
a dying dream still inhabited
by the ghost of your presence.
