Heedless Reality

Words speak volumes of no meaning,
some kind of misunderstanding,
questions unanswered, truth lost
in translation from ideal to real.

Time passes, laden with memories.
Uncounted days have slipped by
since that fateful hour of reckoning,
that moment of cold, clear destiny
when reality felled paradise
at the doorstep of a bright eternity.

Hope is a hoax, living in fantasy,
bereft of tomorrow's shining promise.
Too many dreams are left undreamt
at the end of a long and torturous road.

Faith is a fool, blind to any truth,
hostage to a cruel, indifferent world,
an old man wandering in darkness,
an existential prisoner of fate.

The unknown future beckons, tantalizing.
Dismally it echoes in tottering ruins,
empty spaces of a life interrupted
by heedless reality, in dreams shattered
on a cold and bleak November day.
